Recently, the Qishi Branch of the Dongguan Environmental Protection Bureau received complaints from residents. There is a strong smell and odor around a certain community. The residents suspected that the industrial park on the east side of the community floated over, which has seriously affected the daily life of the residents. After receiving the complaint, the environmental law enforcement officers urgently dispatched and use air monitoring sensors to conduct odor investigation on the industrial area surrounding the community. Considering that there are industrial parks and civil construction projects around the community, there are many small factories and different types. the best solution is drone equipped with the air pollutant gas monitoring sensor to do this task.

Air monitoring sensors with data real-time visualization and analysis software to quickly lock up pollution sources and master pollutant concentration data to quickly provide clues for environmental law enforcement.
During the inspection process, when the air monitoring drone flies over a factory building, the software shows that the concentration of VOCs rises sharply, and the highest value of the color patch reaches 35 ppm (the background VOCs concentration of the industrial area is less than 0.1 ppm). The PM2.5 value is also significantly higher, with a single point concentration of up to 196.0 ug/m3. The specific position of the high point of concentration (red circled part) can be clearly seen from the figure below.

Testing equipment:
Air monitoring sensors + drone + 4K Camera + software
Detection elements: VOCs
Working time: 1 hour and 20 minutes
Working range: 134,000 square meters
Test result: the highest value of the color block is 35.0ppm, and the background concentration is less than 0.1ppm.
The VOCs contour concentration map of the industrial area drawn by the air monitoring software, the purple position is the concentration abnormal area.

After discovering the situation, law enforcement officers conducted further investigations on the suspect area in conjunction with real-time data and resident complaint locations.
The pilot controlled the drone to take a photo and found that the location was a factory building with a row of ventilation holes at the top of the plant.
On-site law enforcement personnel speculated that there was a large amount of VOCs unorganized inside the factory, which was directly discharged into the air through the ventilation holes at the top of the factory (the red marked part in the figure below), which is suspected to be the source of the odor of the surrounding community.
After on-site inspection, law enforcement officers found exhaust emission -the source of pollution. take further action on this factory.

In the case of the residents’ complaints about the source of pollution, the air gas monitoring sensors and the drones showed extremely high sensitivity, stability and practicability in actual combat, providing timely, intuitive and comprehensive decision-making for the environmental protection department of Dongguan. the efficiency of environmental law enforcement has been greatly improved.
